Inkjet Printer

The inkjet printer is a nonimpact printer which sprays small drops of ink on the page. The print head can contain from 50 to 200 holes. The printer creates an image on the page when ink is sprayed through a combination of these holes. The more holes in the print head, the better the quality of print.

The speed of inkjet printers is measured in pages per minute or Ppm. Most printers can print text at a rate of 2-6 pages per minute. Color and graphics printing are a bit slower.

The inkjet printer can print in monochrome, and some in color. They can produce very high-quality print and graphics including near letter quality. If you use special paper, you can produce photographic quality printing. You can also print transparencies.

Some inkjets come with built-in RAM. This speeds up printing. It also frees up your PC because the PC can send the print job directly to the printer.

Some inkjet printers come with built-in fonts. If fonts are built into the printer it saves time, as your PC does not have to send the font to your printer.

Inkjet printers are a bit more expensive than dot matrix, but not much. They offer a print quality that is almost as good as a laser printer for a lot less money. They are also very quiet but are slow and expensive to operate. They usually require special coated paper to get the best print quality. These are the most popular types of printers on the market today.
